Troika Seminar
As a trio artist group Troika from England comes to Korea, there was a seminar taking place. This poster is for the seminar. I tried to express the context of Troika’s media art conceptually and experimentally.
In what kind of philosophy your graphic approach is inscribed?
I put my best effort to work logically and thoughtfully. As I always think that the design should look distinctive, I make sure to work conceptually just to make sure that I create friendly and catchy designs.
I always push myself to design based on recent arts and logics which we can see everywhere these days. For example, I put my own contextual ideas and feelings even if the size of the design is small like posters. This is because the work itself constitutes the person when a person makes contextual ideas.
Let’s take an example of “Troika” work. Usually, Troika posters are designed in a way that the texts are displayed in the front side and the light shaped graphics look shiny. I made sure to make two images can be viewed simultaneously in one image in order to make sure that the information can be understood in its best way. When you see the two images, you may see that photos partially changes as you move the image’s angle, but this is all intended as I felt the images would be better to be put with changing partially. This work made me to think in a context of making more of ‘experimental media art’ than just making the graphics look cool.
Also, in my methodological thoughts, I usually put nested intuitive and conceptual keywords in my work. I also put many other concepts and things in order to create new ideas, which makes something weird and new things at the end of the day.
런던을 기반으로 활동하는 미디어 아티스트 그룹 트로이카Troika는 에바 루키Eva Rucki, 와 코니 프리어Conny Freyer, 그리고 세바스찬 노엘Sebastien Noel, 이 영국 왕립 예술학교Royal College of Art에서 만나 2003년 결성했다.
그들의 실험적인 작업은 분야를 교차하여 과학과 철학 요소를 결합시킨다. 조각,건축,설치 영역의 혼합을 넘어서 철학의 영역까지 다루는 작업 방식은 사물과 분야의 경계를 탐구하게 한다. 궁극적으로 트로이카는 특정한 경험, 공간을 정의 하지 않는데 그 힘이 있다. 우리에게로 하여금 과학적인 메커니즘을 인간의 경험과 인식으로 전위시켜 다양하고 색다른 경험을 하게해 주었다.
전 세계적으로 활동하는 트로이카는 뉴욕 현대미술관(MoMA), 런던 빅토리아 -앨버트 미술관(Victoria & Albert Museum)과 시카고 현대 미술관(Art Institute of Chicago), 그리고 테이트 브리튼(Tate Britain)에서 전시를 가졌다. 또한 그들의 작품은 예루살렘의 이스라엘 박물관(Israel Museum Jerusalem), 영국 문화원(British Council), 시카고 현대미술관(Art Institute of Chicago), 런던 빅토리아-앨버트 미술관 그리고 뉴욕 현대미술관에 영구 소장되어 있다.
